Entry-Level Carpenter
 


POSITION

Backcountry Tiny Homes of Hampstead, NH is seeking a full time entry-level carpenter with general construction/labor experience to start ASAP as part of our tiny home construction team. This individual will work closely with our Foreman as part of our build staff to gain invaluable experience in a myriad of different skill sets. As part of the build team, in this position you will construct custom-designed tiny homes on wheels from a set of plans, mock-ups, and 3D models developed by our in-house design team. Each tiny home is constructed from an existing trailer all the way through furnishings and the build process is done as part of a team. Responsibilities for this position are broken down, by percentage, below. The majority of construction takes place inside a climate controlled warehouse but does include some minor outside work as needed. Backcountry Tiny Homes to provide all necessary tools and PPE but carpenter is welcome to bring their own.

Position to have 90-day probationary period where entry-level carpenter still has full access to wage compensation as a full-time employee. At the end of the 90-day probationary period, position to transition to include full stated benefits below.

ABOUT US & COMPANY CULTURE

Backcountry Tiny Homes is a small tiny home construction company that provides full design and construction services for custom tiny homes on wheels. With over a combined 25 years of construction, carpentry, and engineering experience, our built-to-order tiny homes have a 12-month+ waiting period. Each tiny home is custom built with unique layouts that keep work interesting and engaging. Our past tiny home projects include custom built-in catios, catwalks, micro recording studios, backyard book nooks, miniature wine cellars, speakeasys, and more. Each tiny home brings new and exciting creative challenges and we enjoy sharing that with our team!

Our four resident shop dogs, Cedar (Newfoundland), Teddy (Bernese Mountain Dog), Whisper (Australian Shepherd), and Sequoia (Miniature American Shepherd) frequent our office/build shop to provide comedic relief and love to our entire staff. While we're excited to provide staff adventure days where we shut down our office to enjoy local fairs, hikes, and more as a team, we also understand that pizza parties don't make up for a real open-door policy, solid compensation, and tangible paid time off. We strive to create an inclusive and enjoyable work environment so that our team members can thrive both on and off the clock.

Our 4,500-sf office/build shop is in close proximity to I-93/Rt.111. Our space is climate controlled with heat and air conditioning, year round, with on-site heated bathroom facilities, offices, small kitchen, and lockers. We provide a space for team members to relax during breaks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 20% - interior & exterior siding

  • 15% - rough framing

  • 15% - silicone, sealant, paint, and stain application

  • 10% - insulation

  • 15% - cabinet/furnishings fabrication & installation

  • 10% - flooring

  • 15% - general construction/task work (utility assistance, minor trim work, organization/cleaning, misc.)

REQUIRED

  • 1+ years experience in a general labor position

  • Proficiency in pneumatic, power, and hand carpentry tools

  • Ability to maintain professional, friendly, and respectful attitude

  • Computer literacy skills (microsoft office, email, basic use)

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Ability to lift 75-lbs +

  • Background check required

  • LGBTQIA+ friendly

  • Dog friendly (clients and owners have dogs on premises)

PREFERRED

  • 1+ years experience in carpentry/construction specifically

  • College/higher education (any degree/certification)

  • Workshop/warehouse work environment experience

  • Trailer towing/moving experience

HOURS & COMPENSATION

  • Hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm at our Hampstead, NH location. We want team members to get out early enough to have time to enjoy personal time after work with the expectation of consistent weekends off. 

  • OT is available (1.5x regular pay) when requested and approved; it is not required

  • Entry-level compensation $21-$26/hr DOE (This is entry-level compensation only; compensation and position growth available and expected - see below)

  • All following benefits available after initial 90 day probationary period:​

    • On the job training expected and provided for entry-level. Off-site job training paid for, annually, for lead carpenters and above.​

  • Stipends & Discounts

    • Annual $75 boot stipend

    • 15% Discounts with Carhartt and Atlas 46

UPWARDS MOBILITY

  • Position has upward mobility with pathway to further experience and salary increase.

  • Lead Carpenters are compensated $26-$36/hr and Project Managers are compensated $36-$51/hr.

  • We increase our compensation to address inflation. Current compensation is based on existing climate. 

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

  • All employees are able to properly socially distance during working hours. Our location isn't open to walk-ins. We're open by appointment only so our foot traffic is controlled/limited to provide safe and comfortable working conditions for our team. We follow CDC and NH state guidelines as instructed.
