Utilities & Connections

Learn More

How do tiny home utilities work? Are they different than a foundation home? What do I need to prepare to connect my tiny home? These are common questions and important information to know. So, let's explore utilities so that you can feel knowledgeable and prepared for when you purchase your tiny home.

Utility Types.

"What are tiny home utilities?"

Utilities refer to essential services such as electricity, water, sewer, and gas, that provide comfort and functionality in a home, supporting daily living. Tiny home utilities are very similar to traditional foundation construction where you have access to residential-grade appliances and fixtures but how we connect to utility sources will be unique to your tiny home. Utility Types

Utilities include 4 categories in your tiny home. They are: electric, water, sewer, and gas. Every tiny home will include these utilities, except gas. Gas is only installed should you and/or the design require it.

Utility Receiver

We provide utility receivers on every tiny home for all installed utility types. These 'receiver' connections are installed directly on to your tiny home and they are ready for you to provide the utility line and supply.

Utility Supply Line

You are responsible for setting up the supply lines for all of your installed utility types. The supply line connects your source to the tiny home receiver, transporting that utility from one place to the other.

Utility Source

You are responsible for setting up the source for all of your installed utility types. The utility source is where your utilities are drawn from or are delivered to. The supply line will connect directly to it.

Off-Grid Solutions.

"What about off-grid?"

Living off-grid means different things to different people. Though, it usually involves disconnecting from traditional public utilities like electricity, water, and sewage systems to live in a more self-sufficient and sustainable manner. When requested, our tiny homes have versatility to be designed to do either. If you're thinking about solar, waterless toilets, and more, see what options we have for you.

Max Amperage.

"What is max amperage?"

Amperage is a unit of measurement for electrical current. It's important that you know how many amps that your home will use as it impacts what appliances you choose and how you will set up your land.

We design our tiny home electrical systems to use a maximum of 50-amps/240-volts. Your installed appliances cannot exceed this maximum. This means that we have to be careful of which and how many appliances we include with your home. Use our tiny home amperage calculator to see what kind of appliances and fixtures work well within this limit.

Pro-Tip: Gas appliances have lower amperage than their electric counterparts.
